My Life on Twitter

HOW I TWITTER

How? Humm...it USED TO BE day and night in whatever way I could imagine! (That´s righ-- in bed--under the covers even the way my father read comic books after the official¨"lights out" when he was a youngster) lol Yes, there was a period of maybe 2 weeks when I was on Twitter at least 15 hours in every 24! I'd wake up to tweet and fall asleep tweeting! Now, in order to keep my stats attractive to bots and to people, I use TweetLater which allows me to create tons of tweets, then have them automatically released at regular intervals in the time frame I dictate. In this way, on my public time line there is at least one tweet every hour or two, whether I am in the driver's seat or not.

My Twitter Routine 90 minutes
~used to be twice a day and INCLUDE Step (7)~

(1) http://www.online-stopwatch.com/
SET TIMER and START timer (90 minutes)

(2) http://sofiamiller.blogspot.com/
Check the day's post and write one or more posts for future publication. Tweet the day's new post.

(3) http://twitter.com/sofiamiller
Read the first page of my timeline and make adjustments as needed: e.g. responding with a tweet or with an unfollow & block. Respond to DMs & @SofiaMiller's. Biotweet a few to say TY to pepole who visit the blog, to people who RT my tweets and other followers at random.

(4) http://buzzom.com/
Reciprocate all new followers that have yet to be reciprocated automatically.
Flush all non-reciprocating people who may be among the people I am following.

(5) http://iTweet.com/web
ONLY IF NEEDED: Read and delete all DMs. Respond as appropriate. Read all @SofiaMiller and respond as needed. Do RETWEETS HERE. Done in two clicks.

(6) http://twitter.com/SofiaMiller
Tweet 12 health fitness tweets with link

(7) http://twitter.com/SofiaMiller
Add about 200 to 400 (the more the better) new people to my "following" list. Listen to music or something educational during the process. (this step I do just once a day) Basically I follow DOUBLE the number that I want to folow me back. If more follow back that's great. I count on 50% however.

(8) http://tweetlater.com/
UPLOAD the 12 health and fitness tweets tweeted in step (6). And as time permits upload more, fresh tweets. Re-set my automation as might be needed. . Focus on health & fitness. Ideally I'd like to have 24 tweets per day pre-set. On May 28th I was up to 15/day of automated tweets.

Also during this time http://twitlonger.com/ is opened in the event I'm inclined to write a long response to a tweet.

My Twitter Bio

Having a Twitter bio full of key words is important to attract people and robots looking for twitterers with certain interests. I am a woman of many interests however for the purpose of this account I elected to narrow my interests to health and fitness. This is my current bio.

Fitness Fanatic & Health Nut Guru (in training). Follow me; I'll follow back http://is.gd/CIGq

  • Short and focused
  • Key words that are true, informative and energetic
  • Promise (an attractive offer)
  • Link to the list of People to Follow on Twitter which is manually updated weekly
I took my picture down and replaced it with a Twitter badge. Now I think a picture related to fitness and health is in order. Could be a picture of me engaged in some activity. But probably I won't use a picture of me because I'd rather not attract people online based on my good looks and/or my gender. ;)

WHY I TWITTER

I want to have a Twitter account that attracts followers because having a base of people who want to interact with me, want to hear what me have to say and want to share with me what they have to say is one of the hallmarks of social media and Twitter has become one of the main hubs of social media of late.

I am involved with social media for fun, education (both ways) and for income. Ultimately I am earning an income through my affiliation with specific vendors and products that I like, use and/or want to use.

My Public Timeline & My Use of DMs

It is in my Public Timeline that I place affiliate links at a rate of 2 to 6 per 24 hours. On that timeline I also place quotes of other people, personal thoughts and opinions, links to specific blog posts of mine and of others, BioTweets, ad hoc questions (for feedback which I end up incorpoarting into blog content) and a List of People to Follow on Twitter.

Personally I think my Public Timeline is motivating, engaging and at times both provocative and inspiring.

So my contribution to my Public Timeline is on automatic, kind of. I spend my time filling the machine which belts out the tweets at regular intervals that I pre-dictate. Also I tweet directly to twitter--Step (6) above.

When I go to twitter I clean up my DMs and respond to any DMs and @SofiaMiller items that stimulate response. Sometimes I have been moved to unfollow and block people based on what I found in these places. lol It's all good, Tweeps! I'm just on a mission and some distractions I'd rather not spend the energy ignoring. ;)

I find myself using DMs more and more because I am cultivating relationships am collaborating with individuals in a ways that don't fall into the health & fitness category. My many interests needn't all be represented in my Twitter account!

So...

So my life on Twitter has been considerably streamlined. I love having a routine checklist and opening all the required site tabs in Firefox. I spend 90 minutes in the morning working on Twitter. I was increasing followers in a systematic and partially automated way (topic of an ebook which I am looking to produce this month--to give away) Now my followeers increase because people folow me and I reciprocate (or block, lol). Also I use Twit Pro Quo. (See Twitter Apps in the sidebar if you are not familiar with Twit Pro Quo and you want to be familiar with TwitProQuo)

Generally, I read through 1-2 pages of tweets and respond as so moved. If I find someone's tweeting annoying or offensive I weed them out. No big deal to them and more peace of mind for me. Even though I don't spend a lot of time reading my Public Timeline, I DO contribute LOTS of tweets EVERY DAY both publicly and through DM.

Oh, and did I neglect to mention: Nowadays I flush out pepole who I find myself following but not being followed back. I use InRev TwitIn (bum name, I know. Find InRev TwitIn under Twitter Apps in sidebar if you want.)

What is YOUR life on Twitter like?

BioTweet (n.) (v.)

So what is a "BioTweet". It is a way I introduce all who follow me to a fellow Twitterer by tweeting the content of his/her Twitter bio.

Here is what happens when I biotweet:

Some biotweeted ME!
loopy2cute bio of @SofiaMiller Focus on fitness + personal development. Avid student of sustainability + communities. Right back at ya! :)

Some biotweeted OTHER PEOPLE (making me a trendsetter once again)

Budjette Bio of @dbgrady "Novelist, freelance writer and columnist. Former US Army paratrooper and war vet. New father and really tired" :-)

moomettesgram Bio of JoyntHeir, Author of Be The Weight You Want http://bit.ly/1A15gu

Some RTd my biotweets

FreeBeing RT @SofiaMiller Bio of @ammafrida I am from Iceland and live on a small farm there

amirk25 RT @SofiaMiller: Bio of @howtostayfit your personal fitness trainer. Just follo... Read More: http://is.gd/C4JZ

RandomReTwitRT @SofiaMiller bio of @wecomparebooks Grad student and owner of WeCompareBooks.com a textbook comparison site. Save tons of cash!

And then some gave me direct feedback

IHospitalitySam@SofiaMiller Hey Sofia - how is your Saturday night? Still diggin' the bio posting idea.

RishiTalreja @SofiaMiller You do a nice thing by including the bio of people you recommend..more people should start doing that :)

From today's flurries of biotweeting:

dcoakley@SofiaMiller What did I do to deserve such a nice gesture? A 'biotweet'... nice.

from @dawizonline
@SofiaMiller TY 4 your Tweeting my Bio Sofia. I am now following you as a direct result. Please visit http://syt.ePublic8.com :o)

from @Manchuriano
@SofiaMiller thank's Sofia you're awesome ;)
I got lots of thank you's.

I think this is a great way to build community, familiarity and more cross linkages, cross polinations, more interconnectedness. I will continue to use this at random AND to rave about someone whose tweets I particularly enjoy like Rishi or Matai...both make me laugh out loud. It's great.

What do you think about BioTweets? Do you use them?

Just for the Record...

@SofiaMiller gets my bronze #FollowFriday recommendation, simply because if she reaches 5K followers by the 31st, she'll write a book ...

@MatchesMalone You're funny. "WHEN" not "if" ! Oh, and I WAS planning on giving it away for free. 5k without BUYING anything from anybody

MatchesMalone@SofiaMiller Well, you've got two plus what's left of this day to get over 550.... Free books are cool. I'll even do a review for you :)

This person has 1990 followers, his/her start date was 9 July 2007. This person, imho, doesn't want to "review" the book, he/she wants to STUDY the book, lol. (Well it will be a recipe worth implementing if more Twitter followers is one's aim.)

It's all good, my TwitterFriend @MatchesMalone. (Revel in all of this back-link love) But lighten up on the jabs. As you see from this post, I'm easily distracted and I've got work to do! You wouldn't want to be non-supportive of a Twitter Buddy, now would you? lol

Anyway here we are...
589 to go BETWEEN today Friday 11:17AM Mexico City time to Sunday 11:50PM Mexico City time.

I can do it, you can do it, we can do it!

Thank you for all of your support and TwitterLove. Next month will NOT be a number-of-Twitter-followers game. But I'll keep tweeting the good stuff. Promise. ;)

...Shaheen Jafargholi! Yes!!!

Personally, I am going to suggest following individuals, individually whenever so moved, whatever day of the week. I will continue to use the FollowFriday App to update my "People to Follow on Twitter" list linked in my bio

Of course if anyone includes me in their FollowFriday list, line up, parade, chorus line, whatever I'll send collective thank you's on Saturday morning.

All togehter this could take me 10 to 15 minutes/week. Perfect. :)

How to Delete Tweets on Twitter

In response to my Twitter Friend who wrote:

lolo_catyI mean i want delete some of comments from (Updates mentioning ) it is above direct messages >>

This was my response (using http://twitlonger.com)

@lolo_caty Murhabah. WHAT you want to delete is NOT my question.
**********
WHERE do you want to delete from:
**********
Choose one of these lists: (1) the list of tweets you see when you click on YOUR profile picture, OR (2) the list of tweets when you click on "Favorites", OR (3) the list of tweets you see when you click on "Direct Messages", OR (4) the list of tweets you see when you click "@lolo_caty"
**********
To delete from list (1) just click the trashcan icon by the tweet you want to delete
**********
To delete from list (2) just de-select the star, so it is no longer yellow
**********
To delete from list (3) just click the trashcan icon by the tweet you want to delete
**********
To delete from list (4) ask the person who tweeted it to delete it from THEIR list (1)
**********
You, yourself cannot directly deleted from list (4)
**********
Inshallah this is helpful to you. Take care. :)

~then, the results!~
@lolo_caty
***********
You wrote:
***********
..murhaba .. thank you so so much sofia
***********
list (4) that is what i want to know .. shokran 7yate :)
***********
I am very happy to know that what I sent to you was helpful and that we NOW understand each other!
***********
okay for list (4) you must contact the original author and ask him/her to delete it from his/her list (1).
**********
You cannot control when someone else types "@lolo_caty"
**********
Every somoeone types "@lolo_caty" it will appear in your list (4)
**********
Afuan by the way...and shukran, too. It's fun to be of service and to have mutual understanding. :)

Peace and much love from me to you. :)

4 Ways to Make Money on Twitter

http://crenk.com/top-apps-to-help-you-make-money-using-twitter/

Link to a website that sells stuff or links to stuff for sale
For example I could link to my blog that has something for sale in the upper right hand corner.

Link to a salespage
For example I could write about what search engine optimization is and then with a text link take the reader to the sales page of Aaron Wall's SEO Handbook, an industry standard.

Tweet affiliate links
As a member of several affiliate advertising brokers, I could just select a product, make a tiny URL and tweet it along with an interesting title or "hook" line. Here are some places you can get affiliate links, once you become an affiliate. Generally you are paid via PayPal once you have earned a certain level of commission. Amazon Clickbank

Tweet from twtad, now called revad
I started doing this once a day about mid-month. It is painless and because I tweet so much I don't believe I appear to be a spam factory~spitting out ads like hotcakes.

Do you tweet ads? Why? Why not?

Shortened URLs

Tweetburner

This is how I shorten URLs for Twitter and anywhere else space is limited. This service will also let me know how many times the new tiny url gets clicked. That way I know what people find most interesting and what they would rather skip. Oh, also I can tweet directly from tweetburner, adding whatever verbiage I want to accompany the shortened URL.

What do YOU use to shorten your URLs?

Twitter Spam: Love It, Leave It or Ignore It

Joanne_Dora@SofiaMiller & unfollow everyone who's every 2nd tweet is trying to sell me something or how 2 increase my followers - not why I'm here...

twiddledout@SofiaMiller SICK OF IT.. NEED SPAM FILTERS!!

Joanne_Dora@SofiaMiller You know for the 1st while I didn't even know what spam was and then Bam! it hit me;)& once every 24 is fair f interactive peep

MichaelPecken@SofiaMiller I look thru the posts before I add anyone to follow. The commercial stuff has to be a small percentage or forget it.

"Spam" was the "junk mail" of email inboxes. You know, the emails you didn't ask for, from people generally you didn't know, asking you to buy something. "Spam" however has broadened in meaning over time. Generally it means someone is trying to sell something to masses of people with clever text & presentation & testimonials... Also for some people SPAM means something that is misleading, that is false.

BaxyBoy INFO: If you get an email warning you not to eat tinned pork because of swine flu, ignore it... it's spam!

Now because of the broad meaning of spam some people are confused

JoostBoers just receives a Swedish newsletter of a software supplier. Can't figure out if it acutally is a newsletter or spam

A newsletter that is sent to masses of people, unasked for by those people, that gives you the opportunity to buy something, is spam. However it may actually be spam that is telling the truth and giving you useful and honest information. That's of course my opinion.

By the way, TweetLater offers a paid service in which you can "mute" the people your ar following and select only those people whose tweets you want to show up in your timeline.

Me? This month of May 2009 is a numbers game. The target is 5,000 reciprocal followers. Maybe in the future for every new reciprocal over 5,000 I will weed out one of the tweeple who just spews ads and quotes day in and day out. I find the ads and the quotes to be a waste of time. ;)

Whatever "spam" means to you, how do you feel about receiving spam in your timeline?

Screen Shot of Stats

So here's the deal...if May 15 is the mid-point...and if the growth is linear...then today 2,500 reciprocal followers would be right on target.

Here is the screenshot--to be taken and uploaded before I go to sleep. :)

Here are some techniques I am using:

  1. TweetLater for auto thank you and auto follow
  2. Me personally, auto follow, no thank you
  3. Following EARLY followers of Oprah
  4. (Idea: Stopped due to too often weird or no response; re-start and write to them)
  5. Participation in FollowFriday using FollowFriday app
  6. Participation in FollowFriday following everyone's recomm endations
  7. (Idea: Follow my top people's top people)
  8. RT tweets and following the tweeter
  9. Tweets Near You to RT and follow random people
  10. Twit Pro Quo
  11. (Idea: Advertise it once or twice a day)
  12. InRev TwitIn
  13. (Idea: Stopped using it for growth because restriced tweeps get cuaght in endless loop)
  14. (Unrelated Idea: Follow latest page of followers of my top people AND write to them or RT them)
  15. Using seach box with keyword for RT followed by following of tweeter

Two Week Review

Feedback Tweets:
TraVerusBizAZLove your blog and the Twitter applications. I'm following your blog.
KorrineB@SofiaMiller I checked out ur blog. U def r a serious twitterer.
tcatlett@SofiaMiller I just took a look at your blog. Very cool. You stand out of the crowd. (In a good way)
bscopes what can i do for you Sofia ?ReallyShecky@SofiaMiller Do not be fooled by the glossy lipstick....this is a woman of substance and intelligence...worth your follow! #FollowFriday
TomPlant@SofiaMiller You're very welcome. You write good stuff.

Target Numbers:
Micole_@SofiaMiller my goal for May is to study and pass one of my teacher test so wish me luck!

My goal for May is 5,000 reciprocal followers. Everytime I do the math I get different results. lol. Of course that's because I ask different questions and consider different variables each time. :)

Ideal:
Prediction: (May 15th...)
I will be following 2,500
I will have 2,500 followers
I will have 1,400 tweets

I follow: ________1874________
I am followed by __________1831__________
I have
_________1121___________ tweets

For me to reach the "ideal" prediction I will need to follow 626 more and be followed by 669 more. I have no idea how many tweets this will take but for sure it will need a handfull of very magnetic topics.

At first glance it seems like a lot to me however 3 days of 223 additional reciprocal followers each day will do the trick. That I can do, with your help. :)

Relationships:
People to Follow says it all. I updated that list a few yesterday using the FollowFriday app to highlight the people with whom I have the most interaction through conversation, retweets or other honorable mention.

So, how is it going with you? Is your life on Twitter unfolding as you wanted? What is your Twitter game plan? How's it going so far?

Reciprocity on Twitter

LORI_SF@SofiaMiller Great tool that I use to help keep up on my Follow/Follower ratio is 'Your Twitter Karma' Check it out http://bit.ly/15T6PE

Here are a couple...
http://www.mytweeple.com/, http://buzzom.com/

What has become my tool of choice, of late, is http://buzzom.com/ and it is in beta with the name: InTwit TwitIn Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it?

It is a single page interface which allows you:

  • to flush from your followers all those who are not folloiwing you,
  • to reciprocate with those who are following you, and
  • to grow your list by following those suggested to you by their software.

Reciprocity is common. I reciprocate with everyone. I will unfollow and block, even after reciprocation, those whose spam or language or profile pic annoys me. Remember rude, crude or lewd?

The reason I "block" after unfollowing someone is that so many of us have bots working for us--yours truly included-- and very likely we will be paired once again if this block is not in place.

Friday, May 8, 2009

Tweet Automation...Really?

Today I eliminated everyone who I was following who was not following me. (flush)

And I added everyone who was folowing me who I hadn't returned the favor to yet. (reciprocate)

I performed these two actions with a Twitter application (Twitter app) called InRev TwitIn. http://www.buzzom.com/

Flush~gets rid of everyone not following you
Grow~introduces you to people you might want to follow you can see their name, profile picture and number of folloers
Reciprocate~allows you to follow all those that are following you and give you the power to include or exclude people from that list. again showing profile pic, name and number of followers.

I used the Grow, too. But I like the Flush and Reciprocate best. Fom now until at least the end of this month (May 2009) I'll be flushing and reciprocating daily. :)

At the end of that process I had the same number of followers as those I was following. We were all mutually reciprocating.

Next, I set up automated thank yous and follows. If someone follows me from now on, I will automatically follow them and send them a thank you note. These two functions were accomplisted with TweetLater.

TweetLater

Please check the sidebar under "Twitter Applications" for "FollowFriday" an app that I used todayy with delight! :) I hope you like it.

What Twitter Apps do YOU use to streamlin your Twitter experience?

Retweeting

When you see something on Twitter that you like, that you think is worth repeating, do this:

(1) Copy and paste the entire tweet (including the author) into your "What are you doing?" (text box) THEN
(2) Type this in front of the whole thing: RT @

Here is an example.

On Sunday morning Ida wrote (tweeted):

"Mental toughness allows you to lead and keep your eye on the target. To get things done, create wins - you need clear, sharp focus".~Ida

I liked it so I put THIS in my text box:

RT @
Ida_Centoni "Mental toughness allows you to lead and keep your eye on the target. To get things done, create wins - you need clear, sharp focus".~Ida

BUT it was MORE than 140 characters so I had to modify it...This is what I actually tweeted:

RT @Ida_Centoni"Mental toughness allows you to lead, keep your eyes on target. To get things done, create wins - you need clear, sharp focus"

Special Note: there needs to be at least one space between "RT" and "@". Ther should be NO SPACE between "@" and the author. After the author there should be at least one space.

Then I sent Ida a public message telling her what I did.
@Ida_Centoni great quote...I just retweeted it (with some editing to keep it under 140. :)

And she responded, also on the public timeline:
@SofiaMiller Thank you - the under 140 thing can get a tad challenging when you talk in metaphors... LOL

So, to recap, when you notice something you like and want to share, then retweet it to all of your followers. I like to retweet inspiring and/or jaw-droppingg stuff. How about you?

You can retweet ANYTHING that YOU like. Just give credit where credit is due and let the author know what you did.

Special Note: Use your best judgement when retweeting something that was sent, "for your eyes only" so to speak, via direct messaging (DM)). Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You know the drill, I'm sure.

Okay so find something worthy of your retweeting and just do it! Leave your retweeting experience in the comments. :)

Who Do YOU Choose to Follow on Twitter

Who do YOU choose to follow on Twitter?

I follow people randomly. I follow about 200 new people every day.

Usually I am following people who have a profile picture and who, on the surface, don't seem to be rude, crude or lewd. lol

I interact with the people that appear in my timeline. That includes people that I follow, whether they follow me back or not.

Now if someone reveals something I choose not to tolerate I simply un-follow them and block them from following me.

Basically, I follow people, keep following people, with whom I enjoy conversation, from whom I am learning something or at least I do not cringe when I see their tweets.

Now YOUR turn. Who do YOU choose to follow on Twitter? Old friends, new friends, family members, work collegues, school buddies, celebrities, news broadcasters, and/or others...

By the way,
PLEASE follow Asialicious/mastera1
if she is a good fit with your criteria. :)
Last she told me, she was asking for people to follow her.
I believe she will reciprocate.
Tell her SofiaMiller sent you. :)

Who Do YOU Choose to Follow on Twitter ...and WHY?

Please answer this question candidly in the comments section. (Uh, oh. Looks like I have an issue with my templates HTML because comments are impossible to leave! Ah, too, bad. Tweet me until issue is resolved. Thanks.)

Rudeness, Crudeness and Lewdness on Twitter

If I find someone's tweets offensive I will delete them from the list of people that I follow and I will block them so that they cannot follow me. The Empress might say, "Off with their heads." lol.

RUDE:
Intending to offend, shock & offend is both rude and unacceptable. (I deleted the offender so I don't have an example handy)

CRUDE:
Profanity is too crude for me. PLUS it is downright annoying.
I just woke up....I hate unknown callers...I don't answer them shits

LEWD:
Lewd is a username mastura1 whose real name is Asialicious who links to a blog whose homepage is an undressed woman or one curled up looking vulnerable in a bathtub. Whatever. .
Lewd is a scantily dressed profile picture or a user name that is associated with horney women or women who sell sex or give it away. Hey, these are just my definitions. lol. No need to get worked up over this. :)
